The Story begins in a small Polish town in approximately 1867.
Little is known about Mike
Sponsky. He was born in Poland in approximately 1867 and at some point immigrated to the United States.
After coming to this country, he met and married
Mary Anastasia Gladiunski. Mary was born in
Kaulisten Poland according to her Petition
for Citizenship. Her last foreign residence was Schwerzen, Poland. She immigrated through Bremen, Germany and
arrived in New York on September 18, 1892. The vessel she traveled on is unknown.
Mike and Mary Sponsky had their first child, Frank
Sponsky, on August 3, 1894, followed by John on February 14, 1896, Joseph K. on March 10, 1898 and William Stanley on
February 10, 1901. Martha Josephine Sponsky was born January 21, 1902. It was sometime between the time Martha
was born and September 4, 1904 that Mike Sponsky disappeared after being hit by a train and knocked into the Sangamon River,
where he drowned. It is unknown whether his body was ever found.

After Mike Sponsky's death, Mary met and married
Joseph Roskosky. Joesph was born in Kolinca, Poland and had immigrated to the United States through New York on September
17, 1891. Joseph had also used the following names:

Josef Roszkowsky
Josef Raczkowsky
Josef Roskosky.
According to some census materials, his
surname was also spelled Roskoski.
On August 3, 1905, the Roskosky's had
their first child, Raymond (Roe) was followed by Amelia born on January 17, 1910. The last of the Roskosky children
to be born was Rose. (for privacy, Rose's birthday will not be published on this site.)

In later years, the Sponsky children lived throughout Illinois, Michigan,
and Ohio. Some had moved to Texas and California. But Illinois was always home in the hearts of them all. The
Roskosky children lived in Springfield and Girard, Illinois after marriage. Raymond Roskosky is buried at Camp Butler
National Cemetery in Illinois.
